The Huawei P20 Pro and P20 Lite have been launched in India at an event in New Delhi, within roughly a month of their global unveiling. The P20 Pro has a triple camera setup at the back while the P20 Lite sports dual rear cameras. Both smartphones have FullView displays and run Android Oreo with EMUI 8.0.

The Huawei P20 Pro sports a 6.1-inch full-HD+ (1080×2240 pixels) OLED FullView display with a 1:1,000,000 contrast ratio and a 105 percent colour gamut. It is said to have ‘natural tone display’, comfortable for all light conditions. It also sports a home button that supports ‘edgeless fingerprint’. There is also gesture support on the home button, such as short tap for back, long tap for home, and swiping left or right for multi-tasking.

Under the hood P20 Pro is powered by the octa-core Huawei HiSilicon Kirin 970 SoC (four Cortex-A73 cores clocked at 2.36GHz and four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.8GHz) complete with a dedicated NPU (neural processing unit). The NPU provides the AI chops to the phone, and is also said to provide up to 60 percent better system response speed, and up to 50 percent smoother operation. It also offers AI-based noise removal on call. The handset has 6GB RAM, and 128GB of inbuilt storage. It comes with a 360-degree Face Unlock feature, said to unlock the smartphones in as little as 0.6 seconds.

In terms with Camera the P20 Pro comes with triple rear camera setup. The topmost lens bears an 8-megapixel (f/2.4)Leica telephoto lens sensor with 3x optical zoom . The second, bears a 40-megapixel (f/1.8) RGB 1/1.7-inch sensor, while the third bears a 20-megapixel (f/1.6) monochrome sensor. Between the larger lenses, lie a laser transmitter and receiver, for quicker autofocus, as well as a Leica colour temperature sensor. The camera has a light sensitivity up to ISO 102400. P20 Pro offers 5x lossless hybrid zoom, and 10x digital zoom.

On the front, the Huawei P20 sports a 24.8-megapixel camera. The company is touting front camera features that help take better selfies. The smartphone also comes with a 3D portrait lighting effect and 4D Predictive Focus. The smartphone supports 6-axis stabilisation and 960fps super slow motion video recording.

The Huawei P20 Pro runs EMUI 8.1 based on Android 8.1 Oreo, with support for Google ARCore and a deeply customised Google Assistant. P20 Pro has IP67 rating for dust and water resistance, USB Type – C, NFC, and is powered by a 4000mAh battery, providing up to 89 hours of music playback. The battery supports Huawei SuperCharge fast charging that is said to deliver 58 percent in just 30 minutes. P20 Pro is only available in Midnight Blue.

The Huawei P20 Lite features a 5.84-inch LTPS IPS LCD screen with Full HD+ resolution (2280×1080 pixels), 19:9 aspect ratio, a notch at the top part of the display, and 432 ppi pixel density.

The P20 Lite has a 16MP+2MP dual-camera setup at its rear. The primary sensor has (ƒ/2.2) aperture and 1.0µm pixels. The secondary sensor is used only for depth measurement. The phone can record 1080p videos. The front-facing 24MP camera has (ƒ/2.0) aperture, 1.12µm pixels with 3D Portrait Lighting. You also get to choose from various augmented reality (AR) stickers that you can add to your photos to give them a unique touch.

It uses the Kirin 659 chipset, which consists of four Cortex-A53 CPU cores clocked at 2.36GHz, four Cortex-A53 CPU cores clocked at 1.7GHz, and ARM Mali-T830MP2 GPU. It has 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. Internal storage can be expanded by using a microSD card.

P20 Lite has a hybrid dual-SIM card slot inside the phone. Connectivity features include GPS, GLONASS, Wi-Fi b/g/n, Wi-Fi Direct, Bluetooth 4.2 Dual Band (with EDR, LE, aptX), USB Type-C port, and a 3.5mm headphone port. It runs on Android 8.0 Oreo-based EMUI 8.0 custom interface running on top.

The phone comes packed with a 3000mAh non-removable battery with a claimed standby time of up to 454 hours and talk time of up to 17 hours on a 3G network. The smartphone does come with fast charging support as well. Its body measures 148.6×71.2×7.4mm and it weighs 145 gram. The colour option available are Klein Blue and Midnight Black.

The Huawei P20 Pro has been priced at Rs. 64,999, while the P20 Lite has been priced at Rs. 19,999. Both smartphones will be available exclusively via Amazon India starting May 3, and launch offers will be revealed on the day of release.
