Honor Play with Kirin 970 and GPU Turbo launched in India, pricing starts at ₹19,999

Huawei sub-brand Honor launched honor play at an event in India. Earlier the smartphone was launched in China back in June. The main USP of this smartphone is the Kirin 970 and GPU Turbo.

 

The smartphone is equipped with a 6.3-inch display with a Full HD + (2340 x 1080 pixels) resolution, 2.5D curved glass and a 19.5:9 aspect ratio display with 409 PPI.

Under the hood, the device is powered by an Octa-core HiSilicon Kirin 970 SoC (4 x Cortex A73 at 2.4GHz + 4 x Cortex 53 at 1.8GHz), coupled with 4GB or 6GB of RAM and 64 GB internal storage. The GPU is Mali T830-MP2.

In terms of optics the phone features, a Dual 16 + 2 MP camera with PDAF (phase detection autofocus) and AF Auxiliary Light. The front 16 MP front camera comes with 3D beauty Effect. The phone supports 4K (3840*2160) recording with EIS and AIS support (highest 1080P).

The device has a non-removable Li-Ion 3,750mAh battery. On the software front, the smartphone runs Android 8.1 Oreo operating system running on EMUI 8.2.

Other features include, 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi (802.11 b / g / n / ac), Bluetooth 4.2 LE, GPS + GLONASS, FM-radio, there is a 3.5-mm headphone jack. The phone comes with a hybrid dual SIM slot, which can only use microSD card by utilising the second SIM slot.

The dimension of the smartphone are 157.91 mm (H) x 74.27 mm (W) x 7.48 mm (D) and weighs around 172gm. The colour option available are Midnight Black and Navy Blue.

The Honor play comes with the Huawei’s GPU Turbo. A software update said to improve graphics processing efficiency by 60% while reducing the SoC (System on Chip) energy consumption by 30%, exceeding the limits of the balance between smartphone performance and energy consumption.

It also comes with 4D Gaming that vibrates the phone in real-time when the user is playing games. The vibration happens when it detects different scenes like explosions and shots. This is similar to the force/haptic feedback on gaming controllers while playing on PCs or gaming consoles.

The Honor Play has a 3,750mAh battery and comes with a 9V/ 2A (18W) charging adaptor. It does not support Huawei’s SuperCharge 22.5W battery technology.

The Honor play price in India has been set at Rs. 19,999 for the 4GB RAM/ 64GB storage variant and Rs. 23,999 for the 6GB RAM/ 64GB storage variant.

The smartphone will go on sale from 4 pm IST on Amazon India and the HiHonorStore from Monday itself. Launch offers include savings on Axis Bank and 10GB Data for 12 months from Vodafone.
