Not so long ago, MediaTek changed its strategy in the SoC market for mobile devices – due to too high competition, the manufacturer decided to temporarily leave the premium segment and instead focus on the average budget segments. Today MediaTek introduced the new single-chip platform Helio P70.

In fact, the SoC Helio P70 can hardly be called new, given that it differs little from its predecessor Helio P60. It produces on the same 12-nanometer process technology. In addition, it uses the same eight-core processor, built on a big.LITTLE scheme. And there is no difference in the graphics component – the same GPU ARM Mali-G72 MP3. The difference lies only in the frequencies of CPU and GPU, which are increased at Helio P70. The cluster of four high-performance cores Cortex-A73 operates at a frequency of 2.1 GHz rather than 2.0 GHz, and a block of four energy-efficient Cortex-A53 remained at the previous 2.0 GHz. GPU frequency increased from 800 to 900 MHz.

Thanks to slightly higher frequencies, according to the manufacturer, the performance increase compared to the Helio P60 was an average of 13%. At the same time, in the “popular” games, the Helio P70 consumes 35% less energy than the Helio P60 at a higher performance. Improved Energy-Aware Scheduling + technology should provide higher efficiency and lower the operating temperature of the Helio P70 by up to 4.5 ° C compared to the Helio P60.

Also, Helio P70 has received improvements in the part of a multi-core processing unit associated with artificial intelligence. Allegedly, the improvements made will provide a performance boost of 10-30%, depending on the type of tasks.

Otherwise, there are no differences: a built-in image processor provides support for currently popular multi-module cameras (dual 24 + 16 megapixels or single 32 megapixels), a dual-channel LPDDR4x controller supports up to 8 GB of memory operating at an effective frequency of up to 1800 MHz, an LTE Cat modem. 7 and UFS 2.1 flash memory support,

So far, nothing has been reported about when to wait for the first smartphones with SoC MediaTek Helio P70.
