Assassin’s Creed Hexe is shaping up to be one of the darkest entries in the Assassin’s Creed franchise, according to well-known insider Tom Henderson. Speaking on the Insider Gaming podcast, Henderson shared new details about the upcoming Ubisoft title, revealing major changes in tone and gameplay.
Currently in development at Ubisoft Montreal since 2022, Assassin’s Creed Hexe is expected to take players to medieval Germany during the witch-hunt era. The game will reportedly focus on a female protagonist who possesses supernatural abilities, introducing a fresh narrative direction for the series.
Darker Tone with Horror Elements
According to Henderson, Assassin’s Creed Hexe will feature a much darker atmosphere compared to recent entries. The game may incorporate subtle horror elements, blending historical storytelling with themes of witchcraft, fear, and paranoia.
This tonal shift suggests Ubisoft is experimenting with a more intense and immersive style, potentially making Hexe one of the most unique Assassin’s Creed experiences to date.
Redesigned Combat and Acrobatics
Another major highlight is a redesigned combat system. Henderson claims Ubisoft is overhauling combat mechanics and updating acrobatics with more unusual and fluid movements. While animations are being reworked, these changes are not expected to significantly delay development.
The goal appears to be modernizing gameplay while maintaining the franchise’s core stealth-action identity.
Possible 2027 Release
Although Ubisoft has not officially confirmed a release date, reports suggest Assassin’s Creed Hexe could launch in 2027. Ubisoft Montreal previously worked on Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake, which was canceled, potentially freeing up resources to focus on Hexe.
With a darker setting, supernatural elements, and revamped combat, Assassin’s Creed Hexe is quickly becoming one of the most anticipated upcoming Ubisoft games.
