Apple is reportedly working on the second-generation iPhone Air, tentatively called the iPhone Air 2, with a launch expected in the spring of 2027, between March and May. The information comes from a report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who cited sources familiar with Apple’s internal plans.
If the leak proves accurate, the iPhone Air 2 would arrive roughly 18 months after the original iPhone Air, which debuted in September 2025.
iPhone Air 2 Said to Be in Development
According to the report, Apple is developing the device under the internal codename V62. The upcoming model is expected to retain the ultra-thin design that defines the Air lineup while introducing several notable upgrades.
Dual Rear Cameras Could Debut on the Air Series
One of the biggest rumored changes is the camera setup. The first-generation iPhone Air featured a single rear camera, but the iPhone Air 2 is said to arrive with a dual-camera system.
Apple is reportedly planning to add an ultrawide sensor alongside the primary camera, giving users greater flexibility for photography and allowing them to capture wider scenes and landscapes.

Battery Life Improvements Expected
Apple is also believed to be focusing on improving battery performance on the iPhone Air 2. While specific details remain unknown, the improvement could come from a larger battery, a more power-efficient chipset, or software optimizations designed to extend battery life.
Powered by the A20 Pro Chip?
The leak further suggests that the iPhone Air 2 could be powered by Apple’s upcoming A20 Pro processor. This is the same chip expected to be featured in the iPhone 18 Pro series.
If true, it would mark a significant upgrade for the Air lineup, bringing flagship-level performance closer to Apple’s thinner and lighter smartphone range.
Launch Could Coincide With iPhone 18
Bloomberg’s report also indicates that Apple may unveil the iPhone Air 2 alongside the standard iPhone 18 lineup during the March-to-May 2027 timeframe.
As with all pre-release reports, Apple has not officially confirmed the existence of the iPhone Air 2 or its specifications. The device remains under development, and details could change before its official announcement.
